Biscayne Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
FALL FISHING AT IT'S FINEST!
Fall is here and the fishing has been outstanding!
Biscayne Bay has been real productive; with the water temperatures dropping the bonefishing have been good through out the whole day.
Day brake has been the best for tailing bonefish. If your bait fishing a small crab or a shrimp hooked weed less will always do the trick. If you don't have bait you can always use a gulp shrimp with a 1/8 to a 1/4-ounce jig works great. This bait has been so productive that I haven’t had a bonefish refuse one yet.
Later in the day look for fish mudding in deeper water. This is the time of year where it's no uncommon to take a shot at a 13lb fish.
Permit fishing has been real good especially during the new and full moon stages. A well-presented crab will do the trick.
There are plenty of small tarpon around and there lots of fun on light tackle. They have been eating small crabs, flies, soft plastics and top water plugs.
Flamingo fishing has been very consistent. The past few weeks there have been fish everywhere. The outside flats have had really good numbers of redfish, black drum, snook and small tarpon. The same goes for the interiors of White Water Bay. This is the time of year where everything is biting and it is not uncommon to have plenty of shot at a Florida Bay Slam.
For those of you considering booking a trip this year, I strongly suggest you take the time weeks before your trip and start practicing your casting. It doesn’t matter if your a fly fishermen or just a spin fisherman, if you practice your casting before hand, I will guarantee you will be more confident and have a better day on the water at catching fish.
In order to maximize your chances of success while sight fishing for Bonefish, Tarpon, or Permit, I would highly recommend that you allow yourself at least 3 days of fishing. This will help accommodate for less than perfect weather conditions we might experience in 1 or 2 days. It will also allow you time to get more comfortable with seeing and reading the fish, as well as allowing your casting skills to develop to a more effective level.
