Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report
May is here and the Boca Grande Tarpon fishing season is in full swing. Thousands of Tarpon have made their way to Southwest Florida and the bite has been pretty good. Boca Grande fishing charters have not only been producing some great Tarpon fishing but the flats' fishing has been very good as well. Snook, redfish, big trout, Spanish mackerel, Mangrove snapper and cobia have all been caught in recent weeks.

The tarpon are here and for most of May, June and July they will be the focus of Boca Grande fishing charters. I have had some great days recently landing as many as 9 and jumping up to 15 fish in a single day. Every day is not like that but that will give you an idea of just how many tarpon are here in the Boca Grande area. Boca Grande Fishing Charters
Redfish fishing has continued to stay very good. Multiple schools of redfish have stayed in the area and continue to feed very well. I have had multiple 30 plus fish days recently on Boca Grande fishing charters and that should continue throughout May. Most of the fish are still averaging 5-7 pounds but I have had a lot of fish well over the 10 lb. mark. Live sardines (aka whitebait), pinfish and cut ladyfish have all been top producers.
Snook fishing has been very good lately as well. I have had multiple 50 plus fish days. Most of the fish are averaging a 22″ -26″ but I have had multiple fish well over 30″ and some over 40" weighing as much as 20lbs. Snook have started to gather in large numbers as they begin their migration to the passes and beaches in the next few months. May is a fantastic month to go in search of snook and the action will be red hot! Scaled sardines will, with out a doubt, be the bait of choice for snook in May but artificial and fly will also get their fair share. The 2013 snook season remains closed and hopefully will remain closed for at least a few more seasons so that these fantastic fish can continue to flourish.
Boca Grande fishing charters are continuing to provide some wonderful action on big trout (aka Gators). I am consistently catching some really nice trout in the 3lb-6lb lately while fishing for reds and snook. May is generally the last month we consistently catch these big trout as their spawn comes to an end and warmer temperatures push them to deeper water.
