Boca Grande Mango Snapper bite

Capt. Darel Carter
July 21, 2015
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

July 14th 2015 I was going to take out three customers from Georgia that wanted to catch some fish to eat. I put in early at the boat ramp to catch bait before I picked them up. I caught plenty of bait but was worried that it would not stay alive when I returned to the dock. I was right; it started to die within about five minutes. I guess from lack of oxygen or too much fresh water. I had to add buckets of water to the live well to keep them alive. After we moved out of the boat basin, the bait was lively again.
Our first stop was to catch our limit of mangrove snapper near a dock. We used ½ oz sinkers with 30-inch 30lb leader and circle hooks. We caught our limit of nice size inshore snapper. We moved in an open area with 7 feet of water and caught lady fish and trout until a storm was heading toward us. I had to move from this area and made a one mile run to cover. That was an excellent plain because this storm had heavy rain and lightning in it. We made two stops inside Bull Bay and caught one keeper red fish.
