Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

I took my 10 yr old grandson out today to fish in the CCA tournament. The tourney started in May and goes to Sept. He has fish in the Cobia, sea trout, jack carvel, conservation, redfish, and ladyfish division as of now.

We started early to catch bait and found jacks blowing up in the same area. He made a cast with a DOA shrimp and put a jack in the boat. First cast and first division done by 0630. We caught bait with ease, as they were everywhere. We started fishing and caught trout, catfish and blue fish. The conservation division was filled because it includes any fish. Both of us were missing some large fast fish and big blow-ups. I thought they were Spanish mackerel. They were completely ripping the greenbacks off the circle hooks, with out any hook ups at all.

We moved several yards around and he caught his keeper size trout for the trout division and one for the open division. He caught a 27" (fork) cobia while trout fishing. That's four divisions filled. The pattern was a grass flat that drops down to a channel.
We moved into Bullbay for reds or snook. No tide-low water and no fish. Our next move was for the ladyfish division. That was quickly filled on a large deep-water grass flat. What a great day of fishing with a buffet of fish.
