Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

I have been busy the last several weeks and the fishing has ranged from good to bad to ugly, depending on the conditions. The wind has been has bad as I have ever seen with some of the windiest days of 2009 last week. The wind has limited my ability to move into some of my prime fishing spots. However I have managed to catch good numbers of quality fish on most trips.
The king fish have been making a good run now for the past few weeks and when weather permitted I managed to catch some good kings. Including a nice 45 lb fish along with the average catch of 20-25lbs.

Snook fishing has been the best I have seen in recent years. with some large fish in the 10-12lb range. With a good bait supply and keeping up with the migration pattern some of the best snook fishing has occurred on these high tides produced by southwest winds.

Red fishing has also continued to be good with several schools of fish on some well known bars.Redfish are also beginning to migrate towards the bushes allowing most anglers fishing to catch a slot fish or two with minimal effort.

I have jumped two tarpon this season already and have enough target able fish to declare that tarpon season has begun for me. Same as the snook migration these tarpon are moving daily and the only way to be successful is to target them daily. It will only get better form here on out.
The only exception to the great fishing we have been experiencing will be yet another cold front moving through on Tuesday with the possibility of high winds and temps in the 40s. Hopefully this will be the last of the many cold fronts that have lead to the really ugly fishing days.
