Boca Grande, Florida Fishing Report

Capt. Andy Boyette
September 8, 2004
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Southwest Florida Still Fishing Strong

Even though we suffered a large amount of wind damage from hurricane Charley fishing remains very good. Redfish are schooled up on their annual fall run. Snook fishing is improving and the season opened Sept 1st. Some large trout are rounding out the mix. Tarpon have all but left the scene with all the wind and rain they seem to have decided to head home leaving only resident and juvenile tarpon. White bait is on the small side so pin fish will be the bait of choice.

All known landmarks are now changed in the Charlotte Harbor as trees are without leaves and many are blown down. There is a lot of derbies in the upper harbor. Any thing from a small limb to a whole rooftop from a house can be encountered so caution is advised. The Pine island sound area is also quite hazardous as well and with the new pass between Redfish pass and Captiva pass a slow speed investigation of the area would be wise.

The area is still holding on to its reputation as a top place to fish but the scenery has changed a bit. But don’t hesitate to still vist and fish this great area and support the local guides. I guided my clients to over 30 redfish 15-20 snook and multiple trout today so the fishing has not been affected.

Good Things Come To Those With Bait
