Boca Grande, Florida Fishing Report

Capt. Andy Boyette
February 6, 2006
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Trout fishing continues to be good with plenty of 20+ inch fish to be had. Most of the trout we have found have been grouped together in pot holes on low tides. Jerk baits have gotten more fish to the boat than shrimp. 1/8 ounce jig bounced will get picked up from the bottom by the bigger fish.

Redfish have been small and uncooperative with the big fish i have seen are tailing in extremly shallow water. With the heavey rain we experinced this weekend the water clarity will be gone making it even more diffcuilt. However the rains will probaly push the fish out of the rivers and move more reds on to the flats.

Snook season reopened on Feb 1st and snook have been better tahn average so far. I ahve been finding them sunning on cold days on the lee side of islands but they are not hanging in the area long so you have find them on a daily basics.

It might seem early to talk about tarpon but I am booking trips for the peek May-June with only a couple of days left open at the end of May. If you are planning on be in the action my advice is to book early as most good Capt's will book up prior to the season.
