Fall Fishing

Approaching fronts mean lower than normal water in the area, which translates to tails, red fish tails. This is the best time of year for sight fishing reds in shallow water, and to practice casting, stalking, and most importantly locating redfish. The water is clear the sun is usually out and the tide will reach some of its lowest levels. There is no more perfect opportunity to try artificial lures than the late fall. Look for these fish to push back onto a dry or low water flat as the tide moves back in. Explore deeper potholes with long distance casts. Fish troughs where water spills off a flat and the edges of deep cuts. You will find if you don’t get in a hurry slow down and even do some waiting the opportunities can appear in the blink of an eye. There is nothing more amazing than watching a lifeless area come alive with fish. Patience can be your best friend this time of year.

Kingfish continue in good numbers as they migrate south with a good number of school fish in the area you can bet the smokers are fast on the heels. Big smoker kings will readily eat a smaller king. Birds bait supply and live bottom are a key combination here.

Snook fishing at night has been much better than the daytime and with a lot less pressure. Docks with lights and bridges are the best bet. There are numerous bridges in the area with fishing access that will produce some trophy snook as well as some table fare, so no boat necessary here.
