Boca Grande, Florida Fishing Report

Capt. Andy Boyette
February 27, 2007
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Spring Or Winter

Winter keeps and coming and going all in the same week making things interesting for the most part. But as everyone knows spring starts happening here in March which is in just a few days. If you are like me and get up early before the sun comes up you will notice that the days are already starting to get longer and with that the fishing gets better.

Trout fishing is still fairly good on the deeper grass flats with a limit easily caught in a day’s time. Redfish seem to be of the smaller size with big oversized redfish in our area not as abundant. But if dinner is in order, you can find plenty of slot size fish to catch. I have seen plenty of slot size snook stacked up in there usual hangouts.

Bait fish are still abundant but are one the small side, these bait should be the right size in another two weeks. Artificial baits are still working quite well for me so I still have not gotten the net out just yet. Soft plastics rigged weed less with or without weight, depending on how spooky the fish are, will still get you plenty of action. If the temps drop again, then jig heads slow crawled, and bounced slowly on the bottom will pick up inactive fish.

Upcoming Tarpon season is looking good and I still have some availability for May and June. Call me for available dates to insure you get in on the action of the Giant Tarpon Run.
