Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishin' is great do not wait!

Beautiful weather and great fishing; what a week.

Not to cool to start out and upper 80s to wind it up. Some cooler temps are expected next week but a warm weekend to for the Snook Foundation fundraiser Friday and Saturday.

Monday was too windy but we went for a ride to scout anyway. The Gulf is so clear and macks are due any time so we rode up to Venice exploring. It got rough so we came home on the inside. The baifish were not showing but we did see some macks and birds scattered off of Manasota Key.

Tuesday we got an early start to fish the incoming flow. Minnows were smaller but plentiful. Just enough mediums for baits. We started picking at some mixed reds. Then they turned on and we had a ball. We ended up with over a dozen larger slot to oversized bulls. The guys went home with a perfect 26-27 inch slot fish each and some nice trout filets too. I’ll add pics to my photos page ASAP. Ed Mansfield got trophy 17 pound 40 inch snook and a 25 inch trout to round out his “Slam”. All three anglers had “Grand Slams” but Ed’s was the biggest. We tried for small tarpon but they were hiding today. It’s great when the game plan works.

Wednesday the bait was challenging and waters calm. Plenty of tiny greenies but very few nice whitebaits. I was glad to have some small pinfish for reds. We started out late but got things rolling on the first stop. Jacks were chomping until the reds came in and took over. We enjoyed a nice rally of 16 25-30 inch reds before the dolphin came in and we left. We fished several areas until we got a few more nice reds. Snook were scarce today.
