Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing has been excellent the past week. Cold fronts came in and dropped the water temperatures into the fifties. The Snook were congregated in the warmer water areas in good numbers. The sun would warm the water and the fish would bite. I fished several charters where we caught more than 30 snook in the 20-32inch range and we had some bigger ones on and missed 2 giants. It is starting to warm up again and the fish are going to come out on the flats again and I am sure they will be hungry. They definitely are not getting much pressure right now and are willing to bite a well presented fly.

Redfishing has been pretty good. The tailers slowed down a little in the cold weather but the redfish over dark bottom in the afternoons were superb eaters. When you see those big pink submarines over some dark bottom and slip a nice crab imitation in front of them it was "fish on"
Last week we had one day where I found both redfish and snook in the same area and we caught 18 redfish between 20-30 inches long 25 really nice snook and a bunch of smaller ones under 20 inches. What a day.

The weather is warming back up and I think the fishing will just get better. The economy is slow and the fishing pressure is minimal so come on out and catch the fish of your dreams.

Boca Grande Fishing Forecast:

Next week we are in the upper 70's for high temperatures and this will bring the water temperatures up. The redfish and snook will be hungry and swimming in the shallow water. The sight fishing should be awesome next week. February is looking good. I love February for fly fishing for big Snook. They begin to come off their winter lies and are ready to eat a fly or plug. Happy fishing and tight lines.
Target Species:

snook, redfish, and tarpon
