Tarpon time around Boca Grande.

Capt. Van Hubbard
June 1, 2008
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Some good days and some windy days.

It's the same old story, we have enjoyed a few calm days of good fishing. we also have made the best of some windy days that we usually got at least one tarpon or some fish.

Tarpon are here and many more are constantly coming. We got a nice fish yesterday on a morning trip. Patrick was down from Tampa with a group and he caught a big, about 145 pounds and jumped another. We saw plenty of schools of silver kings all around us most of the trip. They just feed when they want to. We did get a shark to steal one of our minnow also.

We did get some whopper trophy snook earlier this week. The photo is on the web photo page. The picture does not do the fish justice; the guys could not hold em out because the snook were so heavy. We are finding some good catch and release snook finally. We are getting a few trout and seeing some reds also. We even caught a small tarpon while checking for pompano on one trip.

We have plenty of fish but consistency and dependability have been evasive. Winds blew up today and are shifting back to a westerly direction but not supposed to be too strong. Evening rains are predicted to pick up this week and we need some moisture soon. Tuesday is the new moon and we are still seeing hundreds of silver kings migrating into the Boca Grande area. when the winds co-operate we are catching quality fish. Let's Go Fishin' soon.
