windy but good fishing!

Capt. Van Hubbard

Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

4-13-09 Warmer weather and better fishing.

Last week we had plenty of minnows but fish were too cold to feed normally. The weekend was crowded so I spent time with my family. Monday was breezy but the fish bite well after the tide picked up some momentum. David and his brother in law Mike meet me at Stump Pass Marina at six thirty AM and we went after baitfish. It was breezy but no problem. We got bait in four throws and went looking for fish. Our first stop produced a fine oversized redfish and two plump trout for lunch. We tried several other spots but no real action ; just a bump now and then. About noon the current picked up and we got a good snook bite going. David landed a slot thirty-one inch fish and both enjoyed several almost big enough fun snook. We tried several other stops and finally were giving up going eat some fresh snook for lunch when I saw several nice reds running around. We stopped and gave em a try. David got to see his thirty inch red grab his minnow on the surface right by the boat. He managed to land it and both had their own "slams".

Fishing was not as good as usual but David had his best snook ever and they both had fun catching some quality fish. They were a pleasure to share the day with and David will be back tomorrow or as soon as the winds allow us back on the water safely. We only have a few more days of snook season open so catch one if you can? Let's Go Fishin' soon. Captain Van Hubbard.
