Bonita Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Steve and Renee Carter and their daughters, Lilly and Maggie, fished southern Estero Bay's backwaters with me on Friday morning, 4/1. Using live shrimp, the family caught seven mangrove snapper including two keepers, and a 14-inch whiting. They released a dozen sheepshead shorts, six small mutton snappers, a 17-inch sailcat, and an 18-inch bonnethead shark.
Bob O'Neill and his son-in-law, Carl fished southern Estero Bay's backwaters Wednesday morning, 4/13. Using live shrimp, the guys caught five sheepshead, including two keepers, along with three sand bream, including two keepers. They released a 20-inch gaftop sailcat, six mangrove snapper shorts, a stingray, and a crevalle jack.
I fished a catch-and-release trip in southern Estero Bay with Carl Baker and his son, Ben, on Friday morning, 4/15. The guys used live shrimp to catch fifteen sheepshead, two sand bream, four mangrove snapper, a mutton snapper, a 20-inch gaftop sailcat, and 2-pound stingray.
Monday, 4/18, high winds and seas were predicted, but the timeline changed enough on that forecast to allow Corey Noltner, Jake Frye, Jake's young son, Evan, and Evan's grandpa, Rick, to fish offshore in spots ranging from 28 to 36 miles west of New Pass. It was choppy heading back in, but was calm during our fishing time. The guys used squid and cut-bait for a variety of catches. They boxed fifteen keeper lane snapper to 14 inches and fifteen grunts that were all around 14 inches long. They caught nine yellowtail snapper, but only one of those was keeper size, at 13 inches. They released a half-dozen mangrove snapper shorts, along with twenty-five red grouper shorts to 19 inches.
Jerry Neuhauser and family, Ryan, Brooke, and Tyler, fished a catch-and-release trip in southern Estero Bay with me on Wednesday morning, 4/20. The family used live shrimp to catch twenty-five mangrove snapper, including seven would-be-keepers. They also released a sheepshead and a 3-pound stingray.
Robert Moore and his son, Robert Moore, Jr., fished the backwaters of southern Estero Bay with me on Monday morning, 4/25. They used live shrimp to catch fifteen mangrove snapper, including three keepers at 12 inches each. They released seven sheepshead shorts.
Bob Cabana and family, Pam Chello and Janice Egan, fished the backwaters of southern Estero Bay, using live shrimp, on Tuesday morning, 4/26. They caught a total of eighteen mangrove snapper, including three keepers at 11 to 12 inches. Pam landed a 16-inch seatrout. The group also released a 13-inch mutton snapper and fifteen short sheepshead.
