Cape Coral - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hanging around the docks near Cayo Costa and under the boat house at Mondongo, the black drum are in the 4 to 5 pound range. Number one owner hook on a 16" 30 lb mono leader, half oz egg slip sinker above a small shrimp will do the trick. Also, at blind pass at the Captiva Sanibel Island break the bridge pylons hold them.
Pie Plate Pompano just off the oyster bar where you find them. 5 to 6' of water and a 4' leader under a LA. Poppin cork and a pink or yellow 3/8ths oz. boxer jig.
Here's a tip, Pompano are extreme fighters. If you try to net them too early in the fight, they will dive below the boat and pop the leader against the hull which results in a heartbreak. The tip is play the fish around the side of the boat until it shows signs of fatigue and it starts to pinwheel. then just quickly dip the net in front of them and you'll get'em every time. If you hold the net expecting them to swim into it they will dart away as they have exceptional eyesight. Good Luck Guys.
