I Kid You Not the Pompano were Hot.
Just off the grass flats on the NE side of the Broken Islands in 6 feet of water the Pompano were thick this last week. I kid you not they were literally jumping into the boat. Pompano are known for schooling hot runs resulting in extended leaps from the water but this was ridiculous. They were hitting the said of the boat. We caught over 12 for a record day casting into or just beside bait pods. A Bobber above a 4 foot 30lb leader and a 4/0 Owner offset hook. These weren't the undersized models, these were Pie Plate sized. The day my wife and I first found them we were out for just a few casts and didn't bring any ice for the coffin box so we ended up letting 10 nice ones go. Good old catch & release but tough on the dinner table. Anyone that has ever caught a big Pompano knows how hard they fight. My wife ended up with a strained wrist and we had to wrap it. Poor Baby, What a way to go.
