Cape Coral - Saltwater Fishing Report
Big Time Wisconsin Fishermen Mitch, son Patrick and friend Bill out with Captain Russ, Tide Walker Charters. Early this morning we raided the Pinfish trap, that I set yesterday for bait, and headed out thru Captiva Pass. We tracked across the big sandbar north into the deep end of Cayo Costa Island, out front of the Watch Tower. Tarpon were rolling all over. We stopped to size the situation and figure out a plan of attack. Just then 30 yards in front of the Tarpon Express, three tarpon rolled breaking the surface water. Everyone yelled. The air was filled with excitement.
I grabbed a good sized Pinfish from the live well and rod set for free lining. I lipped the bait and made a cast to where the water was still disturbed. Within ten seconds, the bait squirmed and the line came taunt. I handed the rod to Patrick as he headed to the fighting chair. As though a hand grenade exploded by the boat, the silver missile cleared the water with a 5 foot jump of defiance. The Fight was on. Go with us now through the pictures to see a fight that lasted 50 minutes and wore down three very strong men.
We finally landed the fish for pics. Putting the boat in gear, Bill idled along as I held the fish alongside the boat to flush water thru it's gills to revive it. I had pulled the hook and leader so that when it decided to pull away on it's own it would be free. AWESOME. I guessed it to weigh 90 pounds. It was a real fighter spinning the boat around over twenty times. It took all three men working hard to land it. It just wouldn't give up. Well done Patrick, Mitch and Bill. Making memories one cast at a time. It's Memorial Day and the one pick reminds me of the Flag being lifted at Iwo Jima. :-)
Oh, Yeah, It's the same shirt different day I swear. I think I know now why Troy Landry of Swamp People always wears the same shirt day in day out during gator season , If you get my drift.
Happy Memorial Day Everyone.
