Carrabelle - Saltwater Fishing Report

Looking out of my home office window at the Apalachicola Bay and the Northern Gulf of Mexico, all I can see is liquid sunshine. It is a good time to write, so here we go!
Let's change the format a little for this report and direct our attention to some really great fishing tools that I use everyday that really help me be a better angler/captain and catch more fish. This may help you!
First, the prudent angler always wants the best, most current weather information available. An excellent website I use everyday is www.rap.ucar.edu Back in the early 80's, you may remember the L1011 that went down in Dallas in a severe thunderstorm cell. The phenonenon was named microburst or wind sheer by the meteorologists. Not all major airports at the time had Doppler radar, so airliners were at risk. This tragedy began the development of more sophisticated tools to help the airline indusry and others better forecast weather events like wind sheer. This website is part of the improved weather forecasting capabilities available to pilots, meteorologists, air traffic controllers and fortunately, the prudent angler.
In easy to understand language, you can pull up surface winds and precipitation forecasts for 1-10 days out. Certainly weather forecasting is still a very inexact science, however these numerical computer models are the very best information available today.
Another terrific resource is www.flrodngun.com This website contains the best tide predictions I have ever found. Daily, weekly and monthly tide predictions are available for the state of Florida from the St. Marys River entrance to the Pensacola Bay. The tide stations are extremely close together so you can pinpoint the tides for your particular fishing area. Also included are tide ranges and moon phases.
Weather info is comprehensive. Coastal and offshore marine forecasts, as well as National Data Buoyage real time reports are a click away. You can see satellite, radar images and wind Intellicast for the area you want to fish.
The informed angler who is aware of tide, wind and rain conditions will catch more fish and have more fun by being more comfortable doing it.
Until next tide, solid hookups,
Captain Alex Crawford
