Carrabelle - Saltwater Fishing Report

Inshore, the red and black drum bite is hot and so is the early Spring weather. This week several charter groups hammered the redfish and black drum on the Saint George Island bridge. Fishing both sides of low water with large, frisky shrimp, the big drums were really hungry. One party had blacks to seven pounds and another group slayed the reds, releasing several to eight pounds. The water temp is up to 66 degrees in the Apalachicola Bay. With the 70 degree days and warmer nights now, it won't be long until we reach that magical 68 degree mark and the big Spring bite will begin anew.
Offshore, the grouper bite is still hit and miss, even way out in the Gulf. One bunch of ambitious anglers ventured out 34 miles and reported only a meager catch with deep water electric reels. Red snapper season for us recreational types will return next month and all will be well with the world. Try some of the nearshore wrecks for Mr. Snapper that are not generally fished by the commercial boys. Out to the South and Southeast, you will score on the Angela, the Paula, the Gilmore and the Flaming Star. All of these wrecks have lat/lons that are available to the public. Get out there and get you some!!!
Until next tide, tight lines and solid hookups,
