Carrabelle - Saltwater Fishing Report
Grilled Grouper, yum-yum! That’s exactly what my party from Allbeanie, Gaagha said yesterday. They only had a few hours to fish, so we cranked it up a notch, put the nose in the wind and set a bearing into the deep blue. Sea conditions were smooth as a baby’s but.
As we turned into the sun out of the Government Cut, terns were working everywhere. Although Spanish macks were not on the designated target list, we could not resist the opportunity to participate in the fun. So we pulled a Yozuri crystal minnow at 1500 rpms and, you guessed it, chomp, chomp. Allowing the lure to go way back and trying to get on the leading edge of the school, usually produces multiple strikes. Marinate the fillets in milk in the frig over night and eat them asap. Or, cut the little macks for grouper baits.
This day’s abbreviated trip produced a plethora of finny critters. We iced a few snappers, seabass, triggers, red groupers and one double digit gag on a cigar minnow flatline. Who says groupers don’t feed up in the water column, just like snappers.
The 15 year old young man was on his first ever saltwater fishing trip. Every single bait that he dropped down on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico got bit. He was a tired, but happy pupster and called all his buddies on the trip home for bragging rights. Oh to be young again in the summer of Saint George!
Enough of this yester yarn, gotta redfish rumble to attend. Sea Ya!
Till next tide, tight lines and solid hookups,
Captain Alex Crawford
