Big Snook bite still strong in The Everglades

Capt. Herb Kehoe
June 2, 2011
Chokoloskee - Saltwater Fishing Report

If it is a trophy snook you are looking for, its time to visit the Everglades area. Those large females have migrated from the backcountry and from offshore to the rivers and passes of the area.

Fattening up for their spawn, these fish are hitting most any type of artificial baits such as Rattletraps and Mirrolures, however you can't beat a live mullet, threadfin herring or a frisky pilchard fished on the bottom. Chunk baits such as ladyfish, mullet and threadfins cut in half are also working well, particularly when the water is dirty.

Fishing for reds continues to be good. The past few weeks, my parties have caught a lot of Redfish, however most have been under or over the slot.

Seatrout and permit continue to bite offshore. Most of the trout are in the 20 inch and over range and are holding close to the structures offshore. We have taken some nice Permit in the past two weeks. Those large schools of fish are pretty impressive as they travel in schools of fifty to a hundred fish push a wake on the surface.

So, if you are looking for some action, come on down to the Everglades and lets go fishing.
