Kingfish and Mackerel

Capt. John O'Hanlon
November 3, 2014
Clearwater - Saltwater Fishing Report

The last couple of cold fronts have reduced the water temperatures driving the Kingfish south from their summer feeding area's near the Pan Handle of Florida. We have not yet seen the massive migrations but they will be here any day. There have been several King Tournaments that have produced respectable Kings. The big guys don't always hang out with the schoolies so be patient when hunting for the big one. I love King fishing and my favorite way is to slow troll or drift live baits behind the boat. Use a lot of chum to drive the fish into a close by feeding frenzy. A small piece of wire helps the hookup of these toothy critters. Remember the size and limits to keep this fishery health.

Target Species:

KINGFISH and SPANISH MACKEREL
