Crystal River Fishing Report: Late Summer Action Sizzles

Capt. Tanner Martin
August 4, 2026
Crystal River - Saltwater Fishing Report

The late summer bite is in full swing here in Crystal River, Florida, offering a thrilling mix of heavy-hitting inshore species and excellent scalloping opportunities. Whether you are hunting giant redfish on the flats or gathering dinner in the grass flats, right now is prime time to be on the water.

Big Redfish: Massive redfish are schooling up on the shallow flats and around mangrove keys as they prepare for their fall spawn. Target them during high tide using cut mullet, live pinfish, or gold spoons.

Trout Heating Up: Speckled trout fishing is getting better by the day. Large, mature female trout are showing up in deeper potholes and along the outer keys, aggressively striking topwater lures early in the morning and live shrimp under popping corks.

Late-Season Tarpon: A few silver kings are still lingering in the deeper channels and near the mouth of the river. Look for rolling fish at dawn and present them with a live crab or a large swimbait.

Scalloping Season Reminder: The Crystal River scallop season remains open until mid-September.

Where to Look: Clear water is the key to success. Head out to the grass flats in 4 to 6 feet of water looking for areas with healthy eelgrass and turtle grass.
