Crystal River Fishing and Scalloping Report August 2020

Capt. Louie Argiro
August 20, 2020
Crystal River - Saltwater Fishing Report

HOT!!! HOT!!! HOT!!! The Fishing and the Scalloping have both been hot in the past month and should only heat up even more as we get closer to mid to late September. Of course our biggest target through these times is going to be REDFISH!!! This is their spawning season and we look forward to seeing large schools of fish on the flats eating everything in their path. This time of year brings big flood tides giving the redfish great feeding conditions. We are targeting the Redfish with live pinfish and live shrimp. Moving a lot from spot to spot seems to be the best tactic to give you the best results this time of year.

With The End of summer approaching so is the end of Scallop Season, we still have a good month of the season and I always tell my clients that once the big tides come in so do the bigger scallops. The scalloping has held very true this season as long as you know where to look and with a lot of miles searched we have definitely found them this year. The key has been to find the shortest grass possible to make it easy to see these tasty mollusks. Once you find one be sure to check that area as they typically travel together leaving large clusters on the bottom to be found.

As for the Offshore fishing we are still catching good numbers of Grouper every trip out, weather permitting. This time of year we are always having to go just a little further out to make the trip a success and once we get out there it has been game on. Fishing multiple spots with live pinfish has given me and my clients the best success. Although some days we are fishing 5 spot before getting that first keeper we are fishing hard and making it happen. Sometimes its all about the chase!!

I am starting to book up my fall schedule since we offer Inshore and Offshore fishing now here at Florida Fishing Adventures, I would not wait to book. I have had a lot of calls regarding the lodging packages since we are now seeing an increase of distancing from hotels and large resorts, so I will attach that to the bottom of this page. Hope to hear from everyone soon!!
