Crystal River - Saltwater Fishing Report

This weekend we had two offshore trips back to back and both days we were able to limit out on the red grouper. The action was so fast at points that my clients told me to just drop the anchor and take a break... We have been drifting certain areas in 50-65 feet of water using cut bait and buck tails. When the bite stops, we anchor on some good looking live bottom and put the chum out, and that turns them right back on. While the Red Grouper bite is amazing, the Gag grouper bite is even better, we were having to catch 10-18 pound gags in between or red grouper bites, those pesky gags just wouldn't leave us alone. And every now and then we would bring up half a grunt or half a lizard fish because the kings would follow the boat, attracted to the action of us catching fish and the noise of the engines running. This past week also saw some amazing inshore fishing for trout and red fish. One of my clients had the pleasure of catching a 5.2 pound Sea Trout! We tried to release her, but the fight just took to much out of her, later when I filleted the fish out we discovered a 13 inch mullet in the trouts stomach, which is probably why the 24 inch fish weighed so much... The bait of choice for the trout has still been DOA Jerk baits of all sizes and colors. And again the best bait for the red grouper right now is good old buck tails tipped with cut bait. If you want to learn my highly efficient jigging techniques, book an offshore trip with me, I garuuuunteeee that the amount of information and skills I will give you will make the price of the trip worth it.
