Crystal River - Saltwater Fishing Report
Have you heard the news: The opening week of scalloping season here along the Nature Coast has started out to be the best it's been in nearly 7 years. We're finally back to counting our scallop hauls by the gallons instead of individual numbers and our snorkelers couldn't be any more excited to hit the water.
Scallop Season runs through September 24th so there's still plenty of time to get your scallop fill in this summer. For those folks have never tried it or are wanting to know what it's all about we have numerous pages on our website that shed light on this extremely fun summer activity. The best part of scalloping is that it's extremely family friendly and requires little to no experience at all. If you can swim you can scallop!!!!

Let's Go Fishing!!!!!! Yes it's HOT!!! Yes we have afternoon storms from time to time!!! Yes we get out early and get back to the dock early!! Why fish all day when we can target the most optimal time frames to catch fish?
Summer time fishing here in Crystal River and Homosassa can be extremely productive when targeting the most productive fishing times of a day. Usually the sunrise and sunset portions of the day are the most productive as low light fishing leads to an increase in fish feeding activity. For those anglers that love topwater fishing (hand raised) this is the time to shine. Snook, Redfish, Speckled Trout and Tarpon are all top targets on topwaters this time of year and when the conditions are ideal Grand Slam opportunities could present themselves (catching 3-4 of these species in the same morning).

Summer Spells Redfish Migration Season here along the coast of Crystal River, Homosassa, and Yankeetown. If you know you know. Have you ever been on a trip where your captain says, "I hope you're ready to catch a lot of fish?"
When the Redfish migration occurs numbers are never an issues as it boils down to how much abuse does an angler want to endure before taking a break. Average numbers during a sitting can quickly hit 20, 30, even 40 fish but there are always those mornings where landing 80+ fish isn't unheard of. Yes, some are small, but most are large averaging over the 27" breeding slot size. This fishing is an absolute blast experience and with most of these fish being released there are usually plenty of numbers to go around.
