Shallow Water Grouer Season!!!

Capt. Louie Argiro

Crystal River - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello All,

It seems as if we are going to start to move forward from the terrible times that we have had in the past couple months. The best part is that we now have nowhere to go but up and that's what we have been working on here at Florida Fishing Adventures. Because of the need to catch bigger and better fish to keep up with the ever changing fishery here in Crystal River we will now offer SHALLOW WATER GROUPER FISHING. A lot of you have been waiting for this time for awhile now and it is here. We have acquired all the necessary permits to Legally target the "deeper" water fisheries as well as a brand new Young Boats 24 Ft GULFSHORE BAY BOAT . We are looking forward to the upcoming season and are extremely excited to share this fishery with those who have never had the chance to experience what it has to offer.

About the NEW BOAT!!!

YOUNG BOATS GULFSHORE 24

The Young Boats Gulfshore 24 is the perfect boat for the Crystal River area. From fishing in 30 feet of water to fishing in 1 foot of water this boat can take you there comfortably and in style. The custom bay boat is made right here in Citrus County having all factors of shallow water grouper fishing in mind. Our fishery is unlike any other in the state which is why our guide boats are different than anywhere else. With a full tower in the rear of the boat it leaves the rest of our boat for a massive fishing platform.

From Young Boats Website, "How can Young Boats improve on two already established winners — the GulfShore 20 and Young 24? By listening to guide and charter boat captains who wanted to fish shallow, venture further offshore and accommodate six fishermen — the GulfShore 24 was crafted! We have combined many of our most popular features and created the ULTIMATE GUIDE BOAT. The GS24 is 2 feet longer and 6 inches wider than the GulfShore 22, and has a wide beam which makes for plenty of open deck fishing space. Because of the new tunnel design, it fishes extremely shallow with a running draft less than 6 inches and also handles heavy chop very efficiently.
True to Young Boats' reputation, several different layouts are available to customize. As with all of our GulfShore series boats, the new GulfShore 24 is rigged and produced in classic Young Boats quality construction with an efficient "sprayed-on" gelcoat non-skid finish."

Come aboard the Gulfshore 24 for a fun filled day that will give you a cooler full of fresh fish and memories that will last a lifetime!!!

From June 1st until December 31st we will be targeting the Shallow Water Grouper. We are fishing for these hard pulling fish in anywhere from 8 feet to 35 feet of water. Crystal River is home to some amazing bottom habitat for these gag grouper to hide and ambush their prey and to house them all year long. Most would not think of catching these Grouper in such shallow water but that is what makes our fishery so special. From bottom fishing with live and cut bait, to trolling shallow diving plugs, to throwing casting plugs at shallow rocks these fish put up a huge fight trying to get back into their home. We are targeting rocks, ledges, springs, holes, and any kind of structure that will hold fish. The best time of year to fish for gag grouper in the shallows would be from October through the end of the season in December, however they can be caught all year long.

Since these fish are so strong on their initial run we use extremely heavy tackle to keep them out of the structure and into your cooler. We are using heavy spinning tackle from 6000 to 8000 sized reels with anywhere from 60 to 80 lb braided line and 80 to 1300lb fluorocarbon leader. Our main goal is for you to enjoy a great day on the water pulling on some extremely strong fish.

Be sure to get in contact with me soon as we do not have much time before the beginning of the season. Send me pictures and stories of your recent Grouper Adventures as it seems everyone has been broken off, or pulled into a rock by these monsters.
