Destin Inshore Fishing

Capt. Blake Nelson
January 30, 2011
Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing in Destin has been great this winter . Trout have been the most active for us. We've been catching most with artificial, including fly fishing, but they have also gone after live shrimp as well. Most have been in the 13" to 18" range but we've boated quite a few over 20". Redfish have also been cooperating for us. Deep water has produced the easiest bite, but the most rewarding has been sightfishing them on the flats. The winter low tides have made for easy spotting of the fish, the trick is to get close enough to cast without spooking them. For both deep and shallow, though, we have used only artificial lures. Though the winter bite has been very consistent, I'm looking forward to the warmer temps of Spring...it's just around the corner!!
