Full box- Kings are better!

Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

As always, I'm writing a fishing report on a weather day. The remanants of T.S. Faye are drizzlin' down outside and the weather channel has made yet another normal summer occurence into a major motion picture. Oh well. I guess they have to talk about something, I just wish they wouldn't fictionalize the weather so much.

Even as the TV was declaring a state of emergency my 4 anglers from Tennessee and I went off the beach yesterday on a slick gulf and nice skies to catch a limit of snappers and some fine kings. Faye had the wind out of the North so as long as we stayed in close it was nice. I wouldn't have wanted to be 20 miles offshore yeserday but then again it's rare that ever go 20 miles out! My guys were used to bass fishin' and we had the usual couple hours of "Don't Yank!!" till they got it down. A nice catch after some quick lessons. The King in the middle of the picture was 48 inches long and weighed right at 30#. The groupers that bit were a little more practiced then the anglers and are still out there for next year--

A nice catch for "Hurricane" conditions

Day before yesterday I just had 1 angler. I'm out catching bait 20 minutes before I'm supposed to pick him up and the phone rings. It's 3 fellows who came down to fish the P.C. tournament and they are afraid it's not going to happen with the forcast- can I take 'em fishin' today ? I told 'em to wait 15 minutes till my booked angler came and talk to him-. Everybody met, shook hands and we all went fishing. Could not have worked out better for anybody 'cept maybe the fish. The fellow that originally had me chartered got to catch the biggest of the groupers on board so he got to show off a little, and the other 3 had so much fun they booked capt Kerry to fish off the beach again yesterday!

the "instant" group trip- everybody won!

The wind will probably come around out of the South tomorrow behind this low and kick up some surf for a couple days. I don't really see how it will move any fish around though. I imagine that things will be right back to how they were by the end of the work week with plenty of fish around but no "new" fish moved in.

The kings have been way hot with all sizes of fish mixed together. The bonus fishes we have been playing with are cobias-- Lots and Lots of cobias-- all undersized but the criters are everywhere and in wads of 6 to 20-- looks like a great start to next years 25 to 30# class fish! Red Snappers are scattered out on all the rocks and a few wrecks are packin' big. I have noticed a few triggers starting to show the past couple days and we had 1 keeper yesterday. It won't be long before they make the fall push to up on the beach. I feel a freezer trip coming!

Speaking of freezer trips- capt Kerry and I both had the day off so we grabbed another couple locals and took Kerrys cat (Not A Dog) out to play the other morning. A limit of Kings REAL quick and then a snapper limit and back to the beach. I smoked a big batch of kings and we fried up a mess too. I made ceviche' out of some of the snapper and put more in the freezer-- Life is good!!

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
