Lottsa Kings, Few Beach goers

Capt. Larry Pentel
September 19, 2009
Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fall at the beach, hard to find a better place to be!

The Kings have turned back on full tilt with a few bigger fish starting to show up. Still a few Mahi's around and the triggers are getting a little bigger and more numerous as well. The weather the past week has been a little unsettled with a lot of rain squalls but the surf hasn't really been that bad most days and I have only missed a couple days due to higher seas. When we came in today (Sat.) I was amazed at how few folks were on the beach for a weekend-- and at least half of 'em were locals I knew! Only 2 other boats out off the beach at Grayton today besides us. Not hot, not cold, the waters is 82 degrees and the fish were chewin' hard.

A great rack of Kings (limit) and 8 triggers on a half day.

This is one of the days I missed ! That's a waterspout about a mile off the beach at Grayton at 6:15 in the AM !

Plenty of fish to be cleaned and cooked-

Sorry if these pics are a little fuzzy- Seems my camera is having issues this week. Living on a an open boat and staying wet for a few years seems to eventually take a toll on just about all the equipment---- Easy to find "waterproof & shock proof"-- now if I could just find some "fishhead proof" gear I'd be in business!

I haven't been running offshore to look for amberines or vermilion snappers as we have been finding lots off surface fish and trigs up in close. I would think that they are starting to show up as well. But hey, why spend an hour running out and back when you can spend 40 minutes of that same hour catching fish up in close?

I have heard some good flounder reports from the harbor in Destin already. It won't be much longer and those tasty flat fish will be stacking up on all the shallow wrecks off the beach as well.

So many species--- so little time----

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
