Red In The Box

Capt. Larry Pentel
June 6, 2012
Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

We have finally been able to add a few of those much coveted Red Snappers to the fish box. While the weather has not been too cooperative since the season opened we have had a few pretty days in between the blows. Plenty of other critters around as well. The Amberines are darn near everywhere and are always ready to pull hard, Kings on the prowl and a few Red Groupers scattered around as well. The Amberjacks have showed up thick on some close in spots as well but they closed when Snapper opened. I hit a well known rock just 3 miles off the beach the other morning looking for a Snapper bite and instead we hooked 3 big AJ's right away- my anglers broke 2 off and we landed one at 40#+.

Here's a few pics from last week prior to the opening of Red Snapper.

And of course-- I have to throw in a few boards with Red Snppers hangin'-

easy afternoon trips too-

This was a 3 hr afternoon trip-- I love it when it's easy !

Hopefully we will get into a little more settled weather pattern. With only a 40 day season on the Snapper it's hard to call off trips - so far we are batting 50% on the weather days in June!

While Red Snapper season is all the talk right now it won't be too long before it's time to start chasing Tarpons again. I plan on heading over to Indian Pass and giving the Silver Kings a hard time after Snapper season closes. If you want to try your angling against a big silver missile the end of July or the 1st part of August give me a call and we'll set up a trip.

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
