Report for Destin, Florida - Nearshore

Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

We finally have gotten some pretty weather. It blew so hard all last week I did not even think about trying to charge somebody to go out in the Gulf. For that matter you couldn't have paid me enough to take you a couple of days. This week has been a little better and it looks like perfect weather for my trips next two days.

Tuesday I took three gentlemen who claimed to be regular readers of this report. I figured anybody that could lie that good was probably a decent fishermen. They had wanted to go offshore and chase grouper but the north wind started blowing pretty hard and kept us within a couple miles of the beach. They still got a few grouper bites ( that knew where to hide in the wreck) and a limit of red snappers and a hand full of triggers. Thursday I took three regulars who not only got thier snapper limit thay got mine also, a half dozen nice trigs and two kings with one about 20#. Yesterday I had two 9 year olds, two eleven year olds and one dad. Two of the kids were repeats and knew the drill. We only had 2 hours to fish since we got a late start and dad had an appointment he couldn't miss. They got 9 keeper snaps ( we threw back a BUNCH). AND 5 good grouper( dad did get the biggest one.) The best part is all the kids are GIRLS !!! See guys it doesn't take brute strength to catch a grouper as much as finesse at the right time. Of course luck has a lot to do with it too.

Today I ran an "anual" trip. Grandad (73), son, and grandson (8 this year). This is a big outing for these folks every year and the weather could not have co-operated any better. We had a great day with slick water and starving fish. Grandad had to take several breaks, especialy after he put the first keeper grouper in the boat. We ended up with 2 nice groupers, a limit of snappers ( one at 10#) and a lane snapper. The grandson had the 2nd biggest snap at about 7#. By the time this boy gets to be 12 he will be one good fishermen!

Take those kids fishin'. Gender doesn't matter ( as we proved again this week). Some of the best times you can spend with your kids are lettin' em experience the wonder of being on the water. Besides, it won't be but a couple of years before they know WAY more than you. If you work it right tho they'll always want to spend time fishin' with you.

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
