Report for Destin, Florida - Nearshore

Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

Summer is here and the fishin' is easy. While I was sitting on the beach at Grayton this morning waiting for my charter I watched one of the locals get 2 doubles on his surf rig. The first was a pair of pompano and the second was a skipjack and a pompano. Not bad for a quick trip to the beach before breakfast.

My folks today didn't do to bad either. A father and son team with a buddy along. Dad wanted kings to catch for himself but wanted snappers and groupers for the table. A tall order for a 4 hour but we persevered. Dad caught a nice grouper on the first stop while his son caught one just a little smaller but still 'bout 10#. About 2 dozen just short groupers later I moved on so dad could try for his kings. We lucked out, the rock I tried yielded him a pair of kings in short order. On to the snapper grounds with a hot bite. We limited out on Red Snapper and even added a couple of Black Snapper to the mix. The buddies last down added one more leagal grouper to the box. With our mission accomplished and a few minuted to spare I went to a rock thats holding some short jacks to go ahead and wear my folks out completely.

Bottom Fishing has been great for the past couple of weeks, probably as good as I've ever seen it.I don't know how long this bite will last but it sure is nice to have a full box on a half day. Yesterday I had locals and got to fish a little longer for a 6 hr. We started out grouper fishing and put 12 fine ones in the box before we started chasing snapper- even had time to make a stop for a handfull of triggers and still had a limit of snapper.

I talked with Capt. Randall at Indian Pass yesterday and he allowed that he saw several Tarpon on his charter in the PM.. Capt. Tim ran a redfish trip in the AM (his angler landed 9)and he saw some 'poons too. Stand By---- it's fixin' to bust loose over there.

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
