Report for Destin, Florida - Nearshore

Capt. Larry Pentel
June 15, 2003
Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

The bite continues-- Even with a full moon the fish are still on the feed. I don't know why we are so fortunate to have so many fish in our end of the gUlf this year but I'm not complaining.

Today I ran a "group trip" a father and son on vacation and 2 locals. We had a limit of Red Snappers with most of 'em in the 6-8# range, a 9# Black Snap, 2 groupers, 6 triggers and a pair of kings. Oh yeah- a nice cobia too that ate the fly pole. The best part was throwing back another limit of snappers- some of 'em up to 10#. I only fished one wreck, the first stop, every thing else was rocks.

Yesterday we had a limit of snappers (24), a couple kings and 6 groupers. Two of 'em were over 20#. A great box for a 1/2 day by any measure but 3 of my 5 anglers were 10 - 11 years old! The bigggest grouper was caught as a team effort by 2 girls, one holding the rod and the other crankin'. Even with both of the kids added together the fish had more pounds than they had years on the planet.

And so on... Like I said the bite just keeps happening. WE even had 45# king added to a limit of snaps on a half day this week!

On the inshore scene the bay is doing well also. It's been a lot of years since I've seen so many trout off my dock. Not just at night under the light but cruising the flats in the middle of the afternoon.

I'm on to Indian Pass in 2 weeks to chase silver rockets. I looked at my book yesterday and saw I'm still open all of 4th of July weekend. I don't know why but if any body wants to chase Tarpon and tripletails the 3rd -6th call me.

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
