Report for Destin, Florida - Nearshore

Capt. Larry Pentel
June 28, 2003
Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

I almost hate to leave all the fish here to chase fish at "the Pass" but.... The Tarpon are there and they are starting to chew, my first charter is Tuesday and I'm ready to launch a silver rocket.

The fishing here is still top drawer. Lots of Red Snapper with at least one big one every day. Lots of Bonus fish too. Todays trip had us limit out on Snaps with a pair in the 15# class. Added to the box were 3 groupers, 2 keeper AJ's and a nice Black Snap. My folks had 3 more big jacks on that are still swimming but with all the latest in jewelry- pierced lips and a hook when the line broke. Gotta let those big fish run folks.

I've run a lot of "kid trips" lately and love it when a 10 year old outfishes the Dads. Happens a lot too folks-- Yesterday I had a gal 'bout 11 catch a Red Snap around 13-14#. She went down, she hooked it and she wound it in. I helped steady the rod some but that was about it. Dad did get to catch a couple groupers but I think that was only 'cause the Jr. angler had quite fishin' and was resting. She was wore out from that big one!

I'll be at Indian Pass from July 1 till mid August. Gotta chase those giants. My Phone # is forwarded to the fish camp so give a holler for a trip.

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
