Report for Destin, Florida - Nearshore

Capt. Larry Pentel
August 6, 2003
Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

August has brought a lot more Tarpon to the "Pass". Everyday for the past week the fish have gotten a little bit thicker with yesterday having a great show. I took my folks out and ran a 1/2 day shark trip with the bite being real hot first thing behind a shrimper and wore my angler down in less than 2 hours. We came in and ran the beach for a ways and found "At Random" working an ever increasing school of feeding fish. We had one eat but didn't keep him on long and had to run in to be back by noon. Randall

s party had several hook ups and got 2 to the boat that afternoon . One at 80# and one @140#. We both had great trips but he is now tied with me on total Tarpons for the year. Wish I could have got my folks to fish all day.

Sunday we had the perfect trip- great shark bite in the AM- a 15# Triple Tail at lunch and a Tarpon to the boat in the early PM- At 3 my folks said they had caught all they wanted and we could go in early and drink beers- now if only I could patent that kind of trip-

I'll be here at Indian Pass for about another 2 weeks. I still don't have a computer here so I'm slow returning e-mail- call at 850-837-6860 if you want to go fishing-

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
