Report for Destin, Florida - Nearshore

Capt. Larry Pentel

Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

Back in Seagrove!

Had a great stay at Indian Pass with the fish all cooperating and showing up right on schedule in the usual places.

The trout bite started out pretty good and just got better everyday. My first rip was an all day mostly dedicated to sight fishin' red fish (anglers got 8 to eat thier DOA's once they figured out that you had to put the lure in FRONT of the fish). We trout fished a few hours in the afternoon with my 2 anglers getting 35 to the boat. Next day was a half day with same 2 folks and we mainly chased trout. They tallied 87 and we kept 13 along with a nice 26" red and a flounder.

And so it went with lots of stops to pick up oysters for lunch between rallys and some really fun trips for the last 2 weeks. The last day I was there (15th) I didn't run a trip but Capt Tim Harvey ran a half day in the afternoon with 5 folks. He came in looking run down and tired with a 30 fish limit. Said the trout had started balling up the shrimp and the birds were giving away the big school locations like a billboard, they had probably released another 150 fish. My son, Capt William Pentel went out for a couple hours on a "date". When they came in the gal said she caught 34 and William had got 31. She had never been trout fishing before and is now spoiled for life. That's a fish to the boat 'bout every 2 minutes! The trout should stay hot for another few weeks slowly moving more toward the freash water as the water cools. The redfishin' should just get better and better with the fallin' temps, peaking out around the 1st of the year

I spent the day getting the "Dead Fish" geared back up so I can start running Gulf trips again. It's Thanksgiving week and there are lots of folks down wanting to chase fish off Grayton. All the reports I have heard here are good with lots of triggers and a pretty good grouper bite going on. I should have a report posted in a week or so after I get out a few days.

Go get 'em!!!

capt Larry Pentel

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
