Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

OFFSHORE

Once again the fish have proved they have tails and no fences. After catching a few kings on the weekend while bottom fishing I tried to mackeral fish on Monday. After 2 hours of trolling over some great spots there was one nice mahi in the box but not the first mackeral bite. I went to plan b and started to bottom fish figureing it was just going to be one of "those" days. In the next 2 hours the box had a limit of Snappers and some fine Triggerfish. One of the snappers went 8#.

It was a little rough Tuesday so I talked the folks going into waiting till Wednesday. Great choice, nice day, and the fish bit. We bottom fished spots that 3 weeks ago had nothing but a few short snappers. Now they were covered up! The fish wouldn't bite long at each spot but it was quality fish. At the end of the 4 hour trip the gentlemen and his two sons who chartered me had 2 grouper, some triggers, a big black snapper, a jack and fifteen red snapper in the box. The snappers were a fine grade as well, I only had to measure 2 of 'em. The whole time I had a fly pole out with no king bites. The only sign of a mackeral was a little spanish that ate a bottom rig coming up. Hopefully these snappers will stay around even as the next wave of kings come through.

INSHORE

The East winds of the past several days have hampered Tarpon fishing at Indian Pass. The wind this morning is due North and lighter than the past several days. I'm going over today to run trips fri, sat and sun.. It is the perfect time of the year, few boats and hopefully lots of fish. I'll have a first hand report from the land of giant silver missles next week.

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
