Seeing Red

Capt. Larry Pentel
June 5, 2011
Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

Sorry for a late report but my camera died with (lots of)big fish pics on it. My wife was kind enough to get a new one yesterday so while I don't have pics from the first few days of Snapper season I DO have 'em from today !

To say that fishing is easy would be an understatement. There are Red Snappers every where. The only trick is knowing where the bigger ones are !

We had to throw this one back as our 8 fish limit was in the box.

This is what we got to keep-- Yep, there are 7 scamps on a half day for a bonus !

Lots of other critters besides Red Snappers, still some Trigs, lottsa Vermillions etc. around. We even had what was probbaly the biggest Nurse Shark I've seen up to the boat this morning.

350# ?

This afternoon I ran a short trip with a few of the Grayton Regulars ( a loose term I know). We had a great catch of big Snapper but one of the crew kept catchin' Gag Groupers ( none left according to NOAA_)- She had 3 over 22 inches in an hour of fishing

Fun to catch still

What we got to keep.

Even before snappers opened we had some good catches. The next 2 pics are 1/2 days with a bunch more fish still in the cooler.

A few of these and a bunch of those.

Pick up some different folks and repeat !

I'm running hard with all the pretty weather- fishing everyday- 2 trips a day 6 days a week so my reports may be off schedule for a bit. With Snapper season being so short (July 18th is the last day) I am going to stay here in Sowal until the 19th and then go over to Indian Pass. If anybody out there wants to try a shot at a BIG Tarpon the end of July or the first part of August give me a call.

In the mean time... get out there and get in the "easy" fishing.

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
