snapper season

Capt. Brian Keith
August 1, 2010
Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

I have not submitted a report in a while fishing has been good snapper season was fishy despite the oil spill to the west. Fishing was unchanged in destin typically the larger snappers were on the beach just before the season opened. And the 1st of july smaller fish remained average size fish 3 to 5 lbs. before june 1st average size 8 to 10 lbs. Using slip lead rig with 40 lb flourocarbon leader with just enough lead to get it down. Typically a 10 to 15 second drop found the larger fish hovering above the reef also a lot of 10 to 15 lb amberjacks inshore this year.

Destin Fishing Forecast:

Starting to target redfish and mangrove snappers around the bridges live greenies or shrimp work on the snappers and golden croakers for the reds.

Target Species:

redfish and black snapper
