Snappers,Snappers, Snappers !

Capt. Larry Pentel

Destin - Saltwater Fishing Report

Red Snapper season finally opened and we have been having a blast catching some fine ones. All the boats off the beach have been coming in with a good grade of fish. We have had a bunch of fish in the 12 to 20# class. It's great to be able to throw back a 6 to 8# Snapper and tell the folks that we really want to look for a bigger one to keep ! The King bite has been hot as well with quite a few "smokers" biting up in close. We had one that went 44# on a short afternoon trip this week along with a couple "Regulars" and our limit of Snappers.

The wind and sloppy seas have me on the hill for today and possibly tomorrow- I can't wait to get back out there. The fishing is as good as gets right

You can't see it but they are hiding another Snapper in the 16# class !

There have been a lot of chicken dolphin running up in shore and several cobias have been caught by some of the Grayton boats this week as well. It just doesn't get any better !

The oil from the spill is ever-present on our minds but at this time is still to the West of us. The closest anything has been seen so far is Pensacola and that was tar balls on the beach yesterday. Hopefully the currents will swing back from the east and take it back further away from us again. It looks like we still have a little breathing room.

More Fishing Reports:

Gulf Fishing off Grayton Beach in beautiful South Walton. Red Snapper to Cobia to King Mackeral to Grouper. No need to get up early or drive for an hour to a marina. We will pick you up on the beach and be on a reef or wreck in usually less than 15 minutes. Some of the Gulfs best fishing lies just offshore of the snow white sands of South Walton. We also offer Tarpon trips at Indian Pass during the summer run. July and August have large schools of giant Silver Kings feeding just off the beach.
