Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
Fishing early in the mornings for the past week or so has been well worth losing a bit of sleep over. Tarpon have been hanging around fairly consistently attacking the schools of white bait moving along the beaches, passes, and back country. Even if you can't find bait or throw a cast net, small artificial lures in the Yo-zuri and DOA varieties have worked very well. Red fishing has been good as the afternoon storms and early morning overcast have kept the water temperatures in the mid to high eighties. Snook continue to run up and down the beaches within feet of shore, terrorizing the same white bait the tarpon are keyed in on. Action hasnt been an issue as many flats have good numbers of trout, ladyfish, mackerel, and occasionally pompano. Nearshore on the reefs and wrecks snapper have been plentiful with a few flounder mixed in as well as an occasional grouper or snook. Bottom line is get out as early as you can and beat both the heat of the day and thunderstorms in. Tight lines
