Estero Bay: A Captains Day Off

Capt. Joe Angius
February 18, 2015
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Redfish have been everywhere and they're all upper slot fish. Sight casting redfish is one of my favorite ways of catching them. So my day off, I decided to have some fun and land one of these big fish.

Silently I waited for a fish to pop up. After a few minutes, a tail finally pops up and I have my bait ready to go. I was using a large whitebait on a 3/0 owner hook with 25lb leader. Pitched the bait in front of the fish, watched the bait twirl around in circles on top of the water, and "pop", the bait was gone. The result was a 29" redfish.

One fish was enough for me and the rest of the day was spent enjoying the beautiful weather in southwest Florida.
