Estero Bay Fishing

Capt. Jon Fetter
August 4, 2011
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Now is the time to get out early, avoid the afternoon heat, and get in on some good action. There is bait on the grass flats in the form of whitebait and pinfish. You might have to chum a bit to get them around, but it should only take a few throws to fill your livewell. The snook fishing around the floating docks and mangrove shorelines has been really good. Free lined whitebait or pinfish on 2/0 circle hooks will work best. Remember to fish the strongest part of the tides for them. They seem to be more active during these times. Redfish have been around and willing to take pinfish on floats of cut bait on the bottom. Use a 2/0 circle hook for your cut bait and be patient. It may take some time for them to pick up the scent. There has also been some good trout action over the grass flats. Look for a the deeper water with shallows nearby. Try using shrimp under a popping cork for the sea trout.
