Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing this past week continues to be really good with plenty of options. The back bay redfish bite has been stellar with up to a dozen fish caught every day. With the high tide mourning's, shrimp up near the mangrove shorelines on a float proved deadly. You can also try a shrimp on a circle hook with a split shot up around the edges. As the tide becomes lower anglers can move to the flats and oyster bars and throw artificial like Rapala Skitterwalks and Zara Spooks. Don't forget the gold spoon as this will work extremely well in these conditions. There have also been good numbers of snook caught up near the mangroves and docks on whitebait which is present off the beaches. Either free lined or under a float on 3/0 circle hooks is the go-to method. If anglers are looking for nonstop action, move to the passes where Spanish mackerel, ladyfish, and jacks are feeding on the millions of glass minnows. Silver spoons and shrimp on 1/8 oz jig heads will work fine. You will also find bonita and tarpon mixed in so beef up your gear and try to get one. There are also plenty of sharks cruising off the beaches and will take cut ladyfish and frozen threads. Add a small piece of wire leader to a 7/0 circle hook and hang on. Blacktips, spinners, bonnetheads, and even hammerheads are possible.
