Estero Bay: Redfish - Trout - Mackerel

Capt. Joe Angius
September 30, 2015
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing has been amazing in Estero Bay these past two weeks. There's good moving water, a lot of bait, and good quality fish. It's important to understand the tides and how they play a major role in finding fish. The incoming tide and the beginning of the outgoing tide seems to be best for it holds the cleanest water.

Redfish are around oyster bars and grass flats. They have been feeding on pinfish, pilchards, and crabs. If the tide is high, be sure to work an area for a good period of time. The fish are slowly moving along banks and patience is key.

Trout are on almost every flat. They will eat a pilchard or an artificial lure under a popping cork.

Spanish mackerel have found their way near our passes. You will be able to see them blowing up on glass minnows or jumping straight out of the water on a flat. Free lined pilchards work well, but a fast moving lure (i.e. spoon) gets the best reaction.
