Estero Bay Report

Capt. Jon Fetter
August 18, 2011
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past week the only consistent thing going was the heat. The bite was all over the place with good days and so-so days. The good news is that there has been bait in the form of whitebait and pinfish all over the grass flats. You might have to chum a bit to get them around, but it won't take long. As for the bite, the snook are still hanging around the floating docks and mangroves. Free lined bait on 1/0 or 2/0 circle hooks will work fine. Fish the strongest part of the tides, this seems to be their most active period. The redfish bite around the mangroves and oyster bars was decent. Shrimp under a float around the mangrove edges provided the most action. Get as far back as you can into the mangroves, they are hanging out in the shaded regions avoiding the heat. The key this past week was getting out early to avoid the afternoon heat and thunderstorms. Be careful, and keep one eye on the sky.
