Estero Bay Report

Capt. Jon Fetter
April 16, 2012
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past week the high tides in the afternoon provided some quality redfish action. The key to locating and catching the fish was attacking the wind driven sides of the mangrove islands. Shrimp tipped 1/8 oz jig heads worked best. Fish the pockets and edges of the islands on the high water. There was also some good trout action around the grass flats and the deeper water, in 3-5 feet seemed to be where they were holding. Shrimp under a popping cork was the go to method. You will also pick up ladyfish and small sharks while doing this. The passes provided some good Spanish mackerel and trout action with jig heads tipped with shrimp dragged across the bottom. Small bonnet head sharks, whiting, and jacks have been cruising the passes as well and will take the same set-up.
