Estero Bay Report

Capt. Jon Fetter
June 21, 2013
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well Tropical Storm Andrea really put a hold on the fishing this past week in and around Estero Bay. Prior to her arrival the fishing was starting to heat up with good variety and size. The snook bite was favorable under floating docks and along mangrove shorelines on high, swift moving water. Free lined white baits on 2/0 circle hooks proved to be the best set-up. There had been a decent redfish bite around the mangrove islands and oyster bars on high tides using shrimp tipped jig heads or pinfish under a float. Utilize the float to keep the pinfish from swimming down to the bottom and getting caught up in the mangrove roots. The trout bite was also starting to pick up with some over slot fish caught daily. Look for the cleaner water in about 2-4 feet with patchy grass and sand pot holes and this is where you will find them. Anglers should use the good old shrimp under a popping cork method for locating and catching these fish. You can also try artificial's like DOA gold or rootbeer shrimp or topwater plugs like rapala skitterwalks, zara spooks, or storm chug bugs. There really was not much of a nearshore bite this past week due to the high wind conditions, but the water should clear up and the bite should resume to normal soon.
