Estero Bay Report

Capt. Jon Fetter
January 28, 2016
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

The weather really played games with anglers this past week, but those that were able to get out were rewarded with a quality sheepshead bite. Fishing blow downs along mangrove islands, docks, or oyster bars proved the best location to find the sheeps. Downsizing tackle to #1 circle hooks with #3 split shot worked best for these bait stealers. There were plenty of mangrove snapper to go along with the sheepshead, but most were undersized. The redfish bite seemed to be best on higher water along the mangrove edges using shrimp tipped jigheads. There was also a few surprise snook using this same method. The seatrout are really starting to feed on the grass flats and deeper cuts using shrimp under popping corks or bouncing shrimp tipped jigheads slow and low along the bottom. Anglers will have to go through many shorts but there are some keepers in the mix.
